Global Warming- Canada

Page history last edited by becky 13 years, 1 month ago

Becky / Jeremy / Declan

  1. As a group you will co-construct your leaning about your chosen National topic.
  2. Over the next 5 days, you will research your topic in relation to PEPS and using the Success Criteria as a guide.
  3. All research will have to be sourced and put into jot notes.
  4. WORK ( EQUALY ) IN YOUR GROUPS SO IT'S FAIR FOR ALL MEMBERS!

1.  Physical-Physical Landscape of the Earth

(location, country size, time zone, natural resources, important physical landforms, climate)

Global warming effects physical landscapes in canada because:

- The earth is heating up so it is drieing up land

- Animals and natural resorces ( ex: polar bears and the north poll ) are effected and dissapearing

- Soon will come down to north america

- Without rain forests life will be dry

- More animals and plants will become extincked because of to much heat

This could also lead to climate change such as:

- A very warm or NO winter in Canada

- More acid rain

- Less ice in the artic

- SOON YOU'll BE ABLE TO GROW ORANGES IN ALASKA!

Sorry about that last note it means soon alaka will be warm enough to grow fruit like oranges

Also it has an effect on animals:

- Polar bears walruses penguins and other cold-climate animals are becoming extinked

- The acid rain and oil ( also coming from fossil fuel ) is " Changing " animals

- We're running out of clean air, ozone layer, fossil fuels and artic places!

- Global warming melts ice in the artic and expands the ocian and soon it is so high it can sink an island

- Global warming makes some parts of the world wetter and some parts dryer

- Fish like it humans don't

- Canada's land mass will get smaller when the glaciers melt because of global warming

- Canada's coastal cities like Victoria, Vancouver, St.John's, Halifax and Charlotte Town could end up flooded

- Global warming will effect Canada's Artic and Tiaga regions the most - and this region covers 50% of Canada!

- global warming will change Canada's seasons - this will massively effect animals (mating, breeding, migration, eating patterns)

- Canada might lose certain species of animals and at the same time we are being affected by other species of animals that in the past never lived here before

- weather changes will effect animal ranges (where animals live and how far they can go)

- world wide global warming is resulting in more severe storms like hurricanes, tornadoes, typhoons, flooding and other disasters

- We might run out of fossil fuels before global warming fries the planet: scintists predict coal will only last 200 more years and oil will only last 30 to 50 more years

when fossil fuels are burned it releas carbon dixidt into the air.

-more ice melt

-more wilder weather

2.  Economic- Forms of Trade, work or any money related activities

(currency, GDP, major exports and imports, literacy rate etc.)

Global warming will effect economic trades because:

- The fossil fuels ( that STARTED global warming ) are short in stock

- After the north pole melts canada will start to dry up

- Other products and resorces ( along with animals ) will start to disapear

- Trees will die

- If trees and resources disapear, there won't be much to buy or sell

- Ecomomany will disapear along with most other things

- I don't think it will be very pleasant to desribe what will happen next

- After the unpleasant feature, the world goes bye-bye!

All the exports from the places that export oil, coal and natural gas thay would possible have to stop because the earth would be to hot.

There is a limited supply of coal, gas and oil in the world.

- less snow will mean that traditional Canadian winter activites like skiing, snowmobiling, snowboarding and sledding will end, this is a big money maker (ski resorts, Winter Olympics)

- if Canada's coastal cities are flooded lots of people will have to move inland

- change in climate will affect our crops (what we grow and when and where we can grow food)

- Even though we are running out of fossil fuel we are not through with global warming yet, because some countreys burn animal dung as fuel and it releas carbon dioxied

Global warming chosed herricane katrian was powerful enough to sweep boats on to the highway.

Herricanes would become more severe because of global warming.

As fossil fuels run out empty gas staions = hard time getting to places.

3.  Political- Government Activities, laws, or any symbols related to these activities

(forms of government, capital city, political leaders)

Global warming will effect political parties in canada because:

- The parties in charge of Canada won't ( and don't ) know how to help the envoroment AND still use fossil fuels at the same time

- If the federal goverment gets to worried and out of options, they might shut down fossil fuels entiarly

- If they shut down fossil fuels, another economic company disapears!

If global warming turns the world to hot, most parties won't want to work or meet which leads to the following problems:

- Parties ( like the federal goverment ) won't want to meet and things could get out of hand in the countrey

- People who support these parties ( plus the citizens ) won't want to help their cities

- Either that or we are going to use A LOT of sunscreen!

But:

- The goverment MIGHT be able to help

- We can make political parties to help stop global warming!

well as I mention as I said in question 2.The places that export oil, coal, and natural gas they would possible have to stop because earth would be to hot.

The government made a low called the clean air act.

- we as Canadian citizens need to make a difference in how we live, in our way of life (consume less fossil fuels)

- As Canadian citizens we need to tell our government that we want change, we can vote for change

- as Canadian consumers (spenders of money) we can vote for change with our money by how we spend it - like buy energy efficent appliances

- The ministrey of natural resources and the ministrey of mining fossil fuel and the ministrey of energy compinsation

should figure something out sooner or later

4.  Social- People and the cultures, beliefs and traditions that define them

(languages, religion, celebrations, recreation, values, immigration, population etc.)

This effects social life in canada because:

- Global warming heats up the earth

- Soon it will go all across the planet

- If it is to hot in the future people won't go outside much ( less socializement )

Also:

- Oil shortage will effect cars

- To socialize out of town will be hard

- To get ANYWHERE out of town will be hard

But:

- Sociality right now works to our advantage

- People can form clubs ( also in political ) to help

- Global warming will effect Canada's Artic and Tiaga regions the most - and this region covers 50% of Canada! This means the people who live there will be affect the most.

- Groups like the Innuit will have less land, the animals that they hunt might disappear, their entire environment will change - so will they - their culture won't be the same

- Canada's identity will change - no more GREAT WHITE NORTH

-flooding people don't socialis to much

Becky I think your group should pick a focus with regards to global warming and then relate to PEPS. Your group has a great start with the information you have put it. Remember your group is analyzing global warming through a National lenses. Keep up the good work!!

Jeremy,
You're not to late. Notice I haven't answered the political question and you can always add on to my thoughts in the other questions

Everyone needs to continue to research and highlight in your own words the key ideas in jot notes from what you are reading (books or websites). Your research at this time should not include inferences. Use PEPS as a lense to guide you through your reading.

Hi Becky and Declan.

It is essential the Grade 5's identify the different levels of government involved in their issue and include the ministry that would effect the issue directly.
