  1. As a group you will co-construct your leaning about your chosen National topic.
  2. Over the next 5 days, you will research your topic in relation to PEPS and using the Success Criteria as a guide.
  3. All research will have to be sourced and put into jot notes.

1.  Physical-Physical Landscape of the Earth

(location, country size, time zone, natural resources, important physical landforms, climate)

  • landforms -> bumpy,chunky, thick, sandy
  • Canada's size is 3,856,751
  • weather: warm->summer/spring, cold->winter/fall
  • Canada time-zone->eastern
  • u.s.a->south, Atlantic ocean->east, Pacific ocean->west,.............
  • arctic ocean-> north,Greenland->south west.
  • It also hurts the land scape like water houses or transport like rafts Also it kills 700 FISH !
  • not enough water for everyone,
  • young ones walk far for toxic water
  • people/animals drink toxic water will die/be ill
  • clean water lim during the 18th and 19th centuries often used rivers and lakes as garbage cansited
  • fish dieing of diseases from water they swim
  • some -what more than 5 million people die each year from illness
  •  plants dieing because of the water there absorbing
  •  nature can actually pollute water it self because of the terrain the water flows in  also because the sea/life
  •

    during the 18th and 19th centuries people often used rivers and lakes as garbage cans

-3 ways water is polluted

-non point pollution, point pollution, and atmospheric pollution

Water pollution is beginning to destroy many forms of life such as sea going creatures, people just like us, and also plants like flowers and trees. This is giving a severe illnesses to these life forms, illnesses so severe more than 5 million people die from the disease polluted water gives them a year. Another reason we have so much pollution in the world is because nature itself can pollute water. Nature pollutes water because of the terrain the water flows in, but water is mostly polluted by us humans. Water pollution is also due to people littering in water. In the 18th and 19th centuries people would use bodies of water such as lakes and rivers like trash cans. That is how water is being polluted physically.

TEACH:WATER POLLUTION GREAT LAKES

2.  Economic- Forms of Trade, work or any money related activities

(currency, GDP, major exports and imports, literacy rate etc.)

  • citizens sue water company
  • some citizens drink from well
  • it kills over 500 people in a year.
  • citizens pay above 50 dollars for sickness of drinking toxic water
  • water company don't give citizens a notice until citizens found out.
  • toxic sewage treatment factories implanted
  • bill costs over $10 billion (u.s. money)
  • citizens sue water company millions just in case they get the sickness
  • citizens take bath in the well same well that people drink in

          less activity in water such as swimming kanoeing

        When a Quebec village's well water was polluted the water company actually didn't give out notices until the citizens found out. The citizens began to sue the water company millions of dollars just in case they get the sickness. Part of the reason citizens were getting sick from the water they were drinking the same water that they were bathing in because they wanted to keep as much clean water as they could but that just made more people sick. After that people realized that the water going in to the lakes was polluted. So sewage treatment factories were implanted. But that came to a cost of 10 billion dollars in American money. That is how polluted water effected Canada economically.

3.  Political- Government Activities, laws, or any symbols related to these activities

(forms of government, capital city, political leaders)

  • some acts where made and put into action to try to gain back clean water (government has to organize these acts and put them into action)
  • (before acts) government doesn't know until last minute and still hasn't done anything
  • if government doesn't  know about toxic water illness, people won't get cure
  • federal government pay a low minimum wage of $10.25 per month if people spend they don't save if go to hospital when ill/sick
  • to stop this send ea legal oil dumpers to court
  • make them pay for damage they took part in

      When the water in village in  Quebec was polluted the government actually didn't know until last minute and still didn't do anything for a while. This caused many citizens to not receive a cure for their illness. Also, part of the reason many citizens couldn't get a cure is because the minimum wage is a low amount of $10.25 causing many citizens  not to afford the cure. After, when the pollution spread to larger bodies of water the government began to organize and put some acts in to action. That is how water pollution effected Canada politically.

4.  Social- People and the cultures, beliefs and traditions that define them

(languages, religion, celebrations, recreation, values, immigration, population etc.)

  • people live within' short drives distance
  • grate-lakes are big part in lifetime/culture
  • people enjoy swimming in water
  • they don't know its dangerous.
  •  humans/animals could get killed by drinking water.
  • sometimes animals pollute water by going to bathroom
  • people polluted water by oil-spills,waste,etc
  • gold mining also pollutes the water by people digging
  • over 300 000 birds die per year because of oil spills
  • 2 ways oil spills happen: 1. accidental leaks. 2. ea legal oil dumping.
  •

When the great lakes were polluted many families effected because they would swim in the lake like they would normally but the y wouldn't no that the water is polluted and dangerous. This could even kill a human or animal if they drank the water from the lake because of the hi rate of pollution. Part of the reason the water is so polluted is because of near by oil spills and humans littering in water. Also, near by mines could pollute the water. That is how polluted water effected Canada socially.

Great job getting a jump start on your research. It is important to relate your topic to PEPS and clearly research your topic. Check for the clarity of your jot notes.

Everyone needs to continue to research and highlight in your own words the key ideas in jot notes from what you are reading (books or websites). Your research at this time should not include inferences. Use PEPS as a lense to guide you through your reading.

It is essential the Grade 5's identify the different levels of government involved in their issue and include the ministry that would effect the issue directly.

Is there anything in specific that we should add to the political section?

Tavares said

Jackson, link the political section to the different levels of government.
