Hunger

Page history last edited by Tavares 13 years, 1 month ago

  1. As a group you will co-construct your learning about your chosen Global topic.
  2. Over the next 5 days, you will research your topic in relation to PEPS and using the Success Criteria as a guide.
  3. All research will have to be sourced and put into jot notes.

1.  Physical-Landscape of the Earth

(location, country size, time zone, natural resources, important physical landforms, climate)

I think that Hunger is Physical because

  • The landscape might be dry and hot, and so the people living there might not be able to harvest enough food to feed everyone.
  • everyone has no cooling vent to bring cold air to where you live.so there is no where to keep your food cold and it rots.
  • Their might not be enough clean water to cook their food and or to drink etc.
  • most children in those countries can only afford small amounts of food that the whole family has to share.
  • to get water they usually have astream to get water from but it isn't clean water from the one we get from out taps.
  • girls have to get the water so they miss school and don't get an education.
  • No natural resources because of hot and dry land.
  • there is no water so they cant start a garden to make there own food
  • also it is very hot and it is hard going everywhere to get stuff that you need.

     2.  Economic- Forms of Trade, work or any money related activities

(currency, GDP, major exports and imports, literacy rate etc.)

I think hunger relates to economic because

  • You have to buy all the food
  • family's live on about $1 a day
  • we have 3 meals a day  they have 1 meal a day
  • Asia,Africa, and Latin countries are in absolute poverty.
  • 25000 people die everyday because the have no money to buy food.
  • Hungry people trapped in poverty
  • Adults are payed to build schools, wells, and to make roads etc.
  • Not enough money for food
  • 925 million of people are hungry around the world.
  • poor and hungry people die because they have no money to pay for food but they do have one hope and that hope is you, you can make a difference in each of their lives. To them you are their hero's to them you made a difference . they mite not now  you that it was you specifically but they do now what you did for them and I can say this with pride they LOVE you.
  • since they live only about 1 dollar a day food is not there only prority.
  • the population is growing more and more so it hard feeding.
 3.  Political- Government Activities, laws, or any symbols related to these activities

(forms of government, capital city, political leaders)

-Some of the places around the world don't have a government to provide them with food or good jobs so that the people can make money and then buy food.

-some of the political leaders don't care if there citizens are hungry they only care about themselves.

-some adults work for food for example when an adult builds schools, dig wells, and make roads and they get paid with little food

-there is allot of food in the world but people live in severe poverty  they cant get some when someone doesn't eat and get all the nutrient that they need they will get sick which is even worse because in has a chain affect when a person is sick they cant go to work so they don'tget money and if they have children they would not eat at all and the children would get sick.it also connects to diseases.

-the government is supposed to help but they arent doing anything

-people dont have enough money to get homes with clean water.

  4.  Social- People and the cultures, beliefs and traditions that define them

(languages, religion, celebrations, recreation, values, immigration, population etc.)

- The population is one big problem because if one mother were to have more then one or two children she would not be able to feed the whole family.

- in the Asian,African, and Latin American countries, well over 500 million people are living in absolute poverty.

one in four people are living on less than $1 per day.

-3 billion people in the world today struggle to survive on $2.

-one out of every every eight children under the age of 12 go to bed hunger.

- There are more hungry people in the world than the populations of the United States, Canada and the European Union combined.

-The number of hungry people increased between 1995-97 and 2004-06

-It took the world thousands of years to reach a population level of 1 billion. By 1950, the world's population grew to 2 billion. So the population doubled in just 50 years. By 1975, we had 4 billion people

-in other parts of the world adults and kid's pray to god

- some immigrants have hard times getting food

interesting fact

-in 1997 alone, the lives of at least 300,000 young children were saved by vitamin A.the developed countries gave it to the developing countries.

- for the price of one missile ,a school full of hungry children could eat lunch every day for 5 years.did you know that unisef wants to end child hunger in 2015.in 2004 families were living on less than $2 a day in developing countries.

-Hunger is a result of starvation and/or disease.

- 925 million undernourished people worldwide, most of them in developing countries

Here are some definitions of words about hunger, full credit to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunger.
Malnutrition is a general term for a condition caused by improper diet or nutrition, and can occur in conjunction with both under and over consumption of calories.
Famine is a widespread scarcity of food that may apply to any fauna species, which phenomenon is usually accompanied by regional malnutrition, starvation, epidemic, and increased mortality.
Starvation describes a "state of exhaustion of the body caused by lack of food." This state may precede death. Thanks!

Hey Aurora remember that wikipedia isn't always the best website for information because anyone can just go on it and change the information

Aurora said

I know Emily, but you can look up definitions in the dictionary too, and you would probably get a similar definition there too.
In fact, these are the dictionary definitions. Compare. Here you go: Malnutrition=lack of nutrition (which basically means the same thing, there is a lack of nutrition from over and under eating. Got to go, more definitions later.

Aurora said

That is a good idea Sarah! Thanks for giving me the feedback for my idea. I will put those in now.

We should start finding interesting facts over the weekend, to help with the project. So that we are ready for when we start with PEPS, we should also probably start finding out that information. For example if you know that for physical, hunger is probably caused by the fact that the country is hot and dry and doesn't grow that much food, then write it down so that when you have time to put it in you will remember it.

Everyone needs to continue to research and highlight in your own words the key ideas in jot notes from what you are reading (books or websites). Your research at this time should not include inferences. Use PEPS as a lense to guide you through your reading.

Abigail said
