Diseases Malaria Cholera final

Page history last edited by Kevin 13 years ago

The diseases malaria and cholera are both equally deadly to the global community, malaria and cholera are diseases that we will show in PEPS.

Physical: (malaria)

The disease malaria is transmitted through mosquitoes infected with plasmodium malarea in other words malaria, these mosquitoes are released when a forest in Africa is deforested releasing the infected mosquitoes,  nobody really knows where it came from because malaria has been around for 50, 000 years. Out of 11 countries of the region, 10 of them are under a malaria pandemic. Malaria has very negative effects, when mosquitoes are infected with plasmodium they would breed in water and then their offspring will be infected, and so will the water source they breed from. Malaria can be found commonly in subtropical areas such as the subsarharan Africa. Malaria was first founded by the french physician Charles Louis Alponse. Later 2 Italian men Ettore Marchaifava and Angelo Celli continued to research about malaria.

Physical (cholera)

Cholera is a water born disease that can be contacted if drank from an infected water source.

It  is an infection caused by bacterium called a vibrio cholerae and people get infected by it when they eat or drink the vibrio cholerae. Vibrio cholerae is a genus of gram-negative bacteria possessing a curved rod shape. Several species of which can cause food born infection usually associated with eating uncooked seafood.

Economic  (malaria)

Donations often happen for Malaria that we can partake in. In Africa many of the governments spend approximately twelve million dollars on malaria funds.  The Stop Malaria project is an initiative that trying to find a cure for malaria or a way to prevent it buy donating money to research. Like the stop Malaria project the large corporation PSI donates money but not to malaria but to multiple disease researchers like cholera or AIDS. Unfortunately not all governments are willing to spend there saved money on this pandemics, they would rather stash it away for other purposes.

Economic (Cholera)

Cholera is a very deadly and dangerous disease that's born in water that will cost the government billions of dollars to clean out. Cholera for tourist cities is a big negative since it can shut down a whole entire resort if the water was contaminated. If the that city was tourist based than the city would take a big impact. Memorials sometimes start donations for the people who have died from cholera. Other donations go to companies like PSI that targets diseases like cholera, or for a vaccine for cholera.

Political (Malaria)

The political project Stop Malaria was founded by the government. This project started in 2008 and hoped to be finished by 2013, and like the Stop Malaria project PSI is also trying to stop malaria but both are trying to stop malaria and to help countries with a government that isn't strong enough save more live and cure more people. An actor named George Cloony contracted malaria while visiting Sudan to support a referendum on independence for the south.

Political  (Cholera)

The political aspects of cholera are that some governments don't actually have any government to help prevent cholera. Also our Canadian government has help stop cholera by spreading advertisement and programs to stop cholera. Some countries don't even have a government to attempt to stop cholera. Corporations like PSI donate large amount of money to help with vaccines or cures for diseases like cholera or malaria.

Social (Malaria)

Malaria means "bad air" in Italian, and it kills about 1-3 million children mostly under the age of 5 usually in the Sub Saharan parts of Africa and Asia. About every 30 seconds a child is killed by malaria. In Africa the death toll of people with malaria is larger than HIV and AIDS combined.
